DaMSA’s Products after Readjustment of Responsibilities

(1 November 2011)
Following the formation of at new Government on 3 October 2011 a decision was made to transfer the Danish Maritime Safety Administration’s (DaMSA’s) tasks to four ministries. After takeover these ministries continue to carry out DaMSA’s tasks, and the only difference for you, therefore, is that you will find the relevant products in these institutions.

Where to Find the Products
From now on your questions about buoyage, AIS and e-Navigation will be answered by the Danish Maritime Authority. In case of an emergency we will save you as before, - our workwear just carries the new name ”Søværnet”, i.e. ”Navy”. Our Sound VTS operators are also transferred to the Navy. From now on the organization National Survey and Cadastre carries out hydrographic surveys, and the Danish Meteorological Institute collects oceanographic data. If you need a pilot, please call DanPilot as before. DanPilot is organizationally transferred to the Danish Maritime Authority.
A full list describing the transfer of DaMSA’s tasks

All DaMSA personnel are transferred together with their tasks to the new authorities. The timetable for the change of address from today’s location in the street Overgaden Oven Vandet in Copenhagen has not yet been established.

The Danish Maritime Safety Administration (DaMSA) closes down, but activities continue

(3 October 2011)
The new Danish government has decided to close the Danish Maritime Safety Administration and transfer responsibility for some of its activities from the Ministry of Defence to three other ministries. In broad terms it has been decided to transfer responsibilities as follows:

Responsibility for the Danish State Pilotage Operator (DanPilot) and the Danish Pilot Authority plus responsibility for exercising authority over buoyage, navigation and support for vessel crews is transferred to the Ministry for Business Affairs and Growth. Furthermore, responsibility for oceanography is transferred to the Ministry for Climate, Energy and Construction. Finally, responsibility for hydrography is transferred to the Ministry of the Environment.

Responsibility for other tasks related to DaMSA will remain within the Ministry of Defence.

Activities continue as usual
Products from the Danish Maritime Safety Administration continue to be available for users with production now taking place under the new authorities. The level of navigation safety in Danish waters, therefore, remains unchanged.
