Whose lives may be endangered?
Category 1 rescue operations (operations when people’s lives are endangered or are expected to be endangered within a short period of time) are not exclusive to any particular type of person at sea. In the statistics below we have divided Category 1 operations into three groups:
Occupational: Those who work at sea
Leisure: Recreational sailors
Person: Accidents involving a person, for instance someone who has fallen overboard, search operations along the shore, assistance with a heart defibrillator or the like.
Other: Operations that do not fit any of the above definitions (environmental operations, for instance).
