We have 21 rescue stations located throughout the country. If an accident occurs near one of our rescue stations, the Navy Operational Command, who are responsible for maritime rescue in Denmark, will often assess that we can provide the quickest assistance. We have approx. 200 rescuers, who are all passionate about helping people in need, and some have done so for several generations. It is a profession with pride, commitment and professionalism, as errors can cost lives.
Education Our rescuers have an education that matches the challenges they face at sea. Of course, the equipment is also adapted to the challenges that the rescuers encounter when they quickly have to help another ship in distress. But on an early January morning, when rescuers set out in high seas to help people in distress, it is ultimately their ability to think straight and act professionally, which will determine the outcome.
Volunteer rescuers Well over half of the rescuers are volunteers, who either use their own time to help those in distress or who have to leave their regular jobs when the alarm sounds.
